Taxes
The Federal Income Tax must be abolished. To offset the government's loss in revenue, I propose a "fair" or flat-rate consumption tax.
This small consumption tax would only apply to finished goods, with few exceptions.
Excluded from this tax would be medications, groceries, and diapers.
A consumption tax would allow individuals to keep a higher percentage of their income, giving one an incentive to work harder without fear of a tax penalty.
Smaller Government Overall
The State and Federal government's "one size fits all" strategy is not only unconstitutional, but it is impractical. Laws that may work or be acceptable in a large western city, often does not work in the small towns of Ohio.
Our communities are much more knowledgeable of what should be acceptable inside our state borders than Washington. Within reason, we should be allowed to define for ourselves what will or will not be permitted.
Charity Over Government
Rather than forcefully redistributing the wealth of our citizens, poverty should be alleviated through private charity.
Americans have a long history of being generous with their charitable contributions. With less money going towards inefficient government social programs, individuals with be more apt to donate more of their money towards efficient private charities.
Gun Rights
The constitution protects our right to keep and bear arms. Every law-abiding citizen should be allowed to possess a firearm in order to defend him or herself.
